In addition, it is time to spring forward with Daylight savings time starting this Sunday, March 13, 2016. Thank you for being wonderful customers and neighbors throughout construction in 2015. It has been a busy year on the Peninsula, the SFPUC’s Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) celebrated the completion of the Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant in San Bruno and the last major water transmission pipeline in the Peninsula region coming into service.
While the Water System Improvement Program overall is now 90 percent complete, we still have a long way to go and our crews are hard at work this holiday season. Below are the construction schedules for the Peninsula Pipeline Seismic Upgrade, Regional Groundwater Storage & Recovery Projects and the San Andreas Pipeline #2 at Junipero Serra Park.
Construction will be suspended Thursday, December 24 through Sunday, December 27.
Construction will be suspended Thursday, December 31 through Sunday, January 3.
Regular construction schedules will resume Monday, January 4.
Beginning as early as Wednesday, July 15, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s Regional Groundwater Storage and Recovery (GSR) project will begin drilling a new groundwater well to a depth of 620 feet deep at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in South San Francisco.
24-hour well drilling work will occur continuously for up to one month inside the blue rectangle pictured above.
To minimize noise impacts, the contractor will monitor noise levels and install sound blankets to ensure it does not exceed the local noise ordinance.During night work, the contractor will rotate construction lighting to direct it away from homes near well drilling work.

The Regional Groundwater Storage & Recovery (GSR) Project has multiple active sites across five cities: Daly City, South San Francisco, Millbrae, Colma and San Bruno. In an effort to keep you informed about construction activities, detours and other project updates associated with GSR Project’s 13 sites, we have developed a Geographic Information System (GIS) Map. The Regional Groundwater Storage and Recovery (GSR) Project will ramp-up construction activities inside the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s (SFPUC)’s right of way in South San Francisco this week.
Linear Park in South San Francisco
The contractor will begin well redevelopment work on Monday, May 18, increasing activity at this site for approximately two weeks.
Permitted construction hours for this work are currently Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Expect to see more construction vehicles accessing the site via South Spruce Avenue. Also there may be some dust and noise associated with construction activities.
Hickey Boulevard & Camaritas Avenue in South San Francisco
The contractor will begin well redevelopment work on Thursday, May 28, increasing activity at this site for approximately two weeks.
Permitted construction hours are currently Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Expect to see more construction vehicles accessing the site via Camaritas Avenue. There may be some dust and noise associated with construction activities.

On Monday, January 12, the PPSU project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc., will begin replacing three critical valves within the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC)’s right of way in South San Francisco between Southwood Drive and West Orange Avenue.
These valves are critical to the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System in the Peninsula. As a result, the contractor must replace all three valves in five days in order to put them back into operation by Friday, January 16.
With this limited construction time frame, the contractor will work 24-hour shifts for this five day period. To minimize noise impacts, the contractor will refrain from using loud equipment and back-up alarms after 8 p.m. 24-hour noise monitoring will occur to ensure noise does not exceed the City of South San Francisco’s noise ordinance and construction lighting will be pointed away from homes.

Westborough Boulevard & Orange Avenue Construction
The project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc., has completed construction of the new tunnel shafts under Westborough Boulevard. The SFPUC’s water pipelines will be taken out of service on Saturday, January 10 and the contractor will begin installing the new pipeline under Westborough Boulevard. Permitted construction hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. These construction activities are expected to last through March 2015.

South San Francisco The Peninsula Pipeline Seismic Upgrade (PPSU) project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc., continues construction on both sides of Westborough Boulevard inside the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s (SFPUC)’s right-of-way in South San Francisco. Permitted construction hours in South San Francisco are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. After the underground tunnel is constructed under Westborough Boulevard, the contractor will install the new pipeline in January 2015. This tunnel design was selected to not obstruct traffic along Westborough Avenue.
Colma The contractor started construction activities along the SFPUC’s right-of-way in Colma on Monday, November 17. This work includes removing debris within the right-of-way, setting up the construction staging areas, and installing construction fences along the SFPUC right-of-way to indicate the limits of construction. Construction hours are currently Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The contractor will begin removing and replacing approximately 700 feet of aged pipeline in January 2015.

Today the project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc., will begin pre-construction activities for the Peninsula Pipeline Seismic Upgrade (PPSU) inside the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC)’s right of way in South San Francisco. Work will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please keep an eye out for intermittent sidewalk closures and detours on Arroyo Drive and Westborough Boulevard.
The contractor will clear the project site of materials and brush within the right of way and begin potholing to locate existing underground utilities. The contractor will begin construction of a new tunnel across Westborough Boulevard in October 2014. The installation of the new pipeline from West Orange Avenue to Arroyo Drive will start in January 2015.

The Peninsula Pipelines Seismic Upgrade (PPSU) is starting construction! The construction contract was awarded to Ranger Pipelines, Inc. Pre-construction work is already underway with construction activities scheduled to begin in August 2014. The PPSU project consists of seismic upgrades to three critical water delivery pipelines in Northern San Mateo County. These upgrades are needed to ensure drinking water delivery to our customers following an earthquake. We will replace segments of the pipeline, open-trench construction, surface restoration and installing structural support within an existing tunnel. The PPSU project spans six improvement components in four different cities on the San Francisco Peninsula within San Mateo County: Millbrae, South San Francisco, San Bruno and Colma. The PPSU project is the final pipeline replacement project in the WSIP program.
