Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant Construction Update

Millbrae work:

Beginning Monday, January 19^th, the project team will be installing a concrete pad underneath an existing meter vault on Sycamore Drive in Millbrae. Construction will take place next to the Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant where Sycamore ends at the northernmost point.

Work at this site will involve excavation that may be audible at times to our neighbors on Sycamore and Crestview Drives. The work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from January 20^th to early February, with louder activities starting after 8 a.m.

On Monday, January 19^th, crews will work 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Millbrae and in several locations throughout the plant.

Work continues to complete the new washwater tank near our Millbrae neighbors on Sycamore, Crestview, Larkspur, and Pinehurst Court.

Thank you for your patience as we push through to completion of this project. Harry Tracy was originally built in 1972 and is the only water treatment plant serving the Crystal Springs Reservoir System.

PPSU Construction Begins to Ramp Up in Colma

This week the project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc. will begin delivering and staging pipeline materials at the Colma site. Pipeline deliveries will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. These pipeline deliveries are expected to last through the end of the week. During construction related activities, please keep an eye out for intermittent lane closures and traffic changes on Collins Avenue during construction.

Pipeline deliveries in Colma will be similar to the activity shown above.

On Monday, January 19, Ranger Pipelines, Inc. will begin removing and replacing approximately 700 feet of aged pipeline at the Colma site behind the Khol’s department store between Serramonte Boulevard and Collins Avenue within the SFPUC’s right-of-way. Permitted construction hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pipeline construction and site restoration activities are expected to last through April 2015. The contractor will work to minimize noise, dust and traffic impacts, but some disruptions are expected due to the nature of construction.

The PPSU project includes seismically upgrading three Hetch Hetchy regional water delivery pipelines located in Northern San Mateo County. South San Francisco Construction Update

Baden Valve Lot Construction 

On Monday, January 12, the PPSU project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc., will begin replacing three critical valves within the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC)’s right of way in South San Francisco between Southwood Drive and West Orange Avenue.

These valves are critical to the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System in the Peninsula. As a result, the contractor must replace all three valves in five days in order to put them back into operation by Friday, January 16.

With this limited construction time frame, the contractor will work 24-hour shifts for this five day period. To minimize noise impacts, the contractor will refrain from using loud equipment and back-up alarms after 8 p.m. 24-hour noise monitoring will occur to ensure noise does not exceed the City of South San Francisco’s noise ordinance and construction lighting will be pointed away from homes.

Westborough Boulevard & Orange Avenue Construction

The project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc., has completed construction of the new tunnel shafts under Westborough Boulevard. The SFPUC’s water pipelines will be taken out of service on Saturday, January 10 and the contractor will begin installing the new pipeline under Westborough Boulevard. Permitted construction hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. These construction activities are expected to last through March 2015.

PPSU Construction Update: Millbrae Restoration Work Begins in January

The contractor removed and replaced more than 900 feet of a critical water pipeline that 

crosses the Serra Earthquake Fault in Millbrae.

The project contractor, Ranger Pipelines, Inc., has completed pipeline installation in Millbrae. Crews will begin restoring the site to how it looked prior to construction beginning in January. Restoration will begin with backfilling the new pipeline and restoring the disturbed grounds to pre-construction levels. The contractor will also begin moving construction related materials and equipment from the staging areas. Once this work is completed, the staging area and the San Francisco Public Utility Commission's (SFPUC)’s right-of-way will be re-seeded with a native plant-grass species.

Permitted construction hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Restoration activities near Ridgewood Drive are expected to last through early 2015. Please keep an eye out for intermittent lane closures and traffic changes on Ridgewood Drive.

Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant: Holiday Update

As of December 24, 2014, major construction has been completed at the plant, however neighbors will still notice some work as the project reaches final completion over the next three months.

No night work is currently planned.

Through February 2015, our Contractor will continue building a new road inside the plant that will improve access for maintenance workers. All work is taking place inside the plant property.

Through early January, a small crew will also continue sandblasting and coating the new washwater tank located near our Millbrae neighbors on Sycamore Drive. In 2014 the project team completed the construction of five new filters. This washwater tank holds the water used to clean these filters during the filtration process. Exterior work on the tank is scheduled for Monday, December 29 through Wednesday, December 31.

The plant is now back in operation and capable of treating water from the Crystal Springs Reservoir System. The work was completed on schedule…just in time for the winter rains!
