Pile Driving 90% Complete

As of October 5^th, 90% of the piles have been driven for the new Treated Water Reservoir. We expect approximately 7 additional days of pile driving, weekdays only.

Pile driving is currently scheduled to finish on October 16^th. Any delay past this date would involve a short break in pile driving for the delivery of materials. Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant Update – Week of October 1st

October 1 - 12, the contractor will be working on an electrical vault near Crystal Springs Road from approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (weekdays only) and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Pile driving is now more than 80% complete and is now expected to be complete by October 16. All trucks use the wheel washer before exiting the plant to minimize dirt tracked onto Crystal Springs Road.

Update: Construction Work at Harry Tracy

Due to a vendor’s equipment malfunction, the cell-crete pour work this week at Harry Tracy must be extended through tomorrow night (Friday, September 21). Crews will work until 10 p.m. both September 20^th and 21^st (Thursday and Friday). Noise monitoring will take place to ensure sound levels comply with local laws.



This work is part of the seismic improvements to the transmission system that moves water from San Andreas Lake for treatment at the Harry Tracy plant. The project team is operating under a critical deadline to ensure the reservoir maintains its drawdown capability during the rainy season.

Construction Work at Harry Tracy: Week of September 17th

The Crystal Springs/San Andreas Transmission System Upgrade project team will be pouring concrete at the Harry Tracy plant September 17 through 19 (Monday to Wednesday) from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Truck traffic on Crystal Springs Road in San Bruno is expected during those hours, with flaggers and pilot cars directing the concrete deliveries.

A special type of concrete --called cell-crete, an aerated and foam-like concrete-- will be used for this work. The machinery may be louder than the typical concrete pours that have taken place at the plant this year. Noise monitors will be present to ensure compliance.

The Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant treats water from nearby San Andreas Lake before that water is distributed to our wholesale customers. The evening concrete pours at the plant this week are part of the ongoing seismic improvements to this critical transmission system.

Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant

·         San Bruno Update

Construction work is scheduled on a critical water valve near Crystal Springs Road in San Bruno from September 10^th to 14^th (Monday to Friday). Work may be required outside normal work hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., including an anticipated 6 a.m. start on Tuesday, September 11^th. The longer than usual shift is necessary because of a newly discovered faulty valve. Replacing this valve requires a temporary operational shutdown and work must be completed within the five days scheduled to meet system demands. Water service to your home will not be interrupted.

Concrete pours will continue every few days in September, with increased truck traffic on Crystal Springs Road. We expect about six trucks per hour, beginning at 7 a.m. and decreasing in volume as the day progresses.

·         Pile Driving for new Treated Water Reservoir

Pile driving is currently scheduled to wrap up by October 3^rd. Please subscribe (see right) to receive automatic email updates about any schedule change. The pile driving for the new reservoir is necessary to anchor the facility sufficiently given its close proximity to the San Andreas Fault. We have undertaken this project to seismically reinforce the plant and ensure that our Hetch Hetchy regional water system can deliver drinking water and fire fighting supply following a major earthquake.

Harry Tracy Construction Update

·         We extend our apologies for any disruption caused by the unplanned evening work performed on Thursday night, August 30. A safety concern with a pipe required a crew to continue operating equipment to resolve the issue until shortly before 10 p.m.  

·         The final phase of pile driving for the new 11 million gallon treated water reservoir began in early August and is expected to continue until late September or early October.  Please subscribe to this site (see right) for updates on our progress. The new reservoir will allow us to provide up to 140 million gallons of water per day, for 60 days, within 24 hours of a major earthquake. Due to the proximity of the San Andreas Fault, the piles are necessary to anchor the foundation into bedrock. Pile driving hours are approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays only.

     

      Noise monitoring (equipment shown left) was performed daily during August pile driving. Supplemental noise and vibration monitoring will continue to ensure levels comply with local laws.

·         Concrete pours for the new tunnels that feed the reservoir will resume on Wednesday, September 5. The concrete pours will be spaced every few days, allowing one area to dry before beginning another. Trucks will operate between 7:00 a.m. and 6 p.m., with the majority of the truck traffic expected early in the day. All trucks go through the wheel washer before leaving the plant to prevent tracking dirt onto Crystal Springs Road. Pilot cars will continue to escort trucks along the road to restrict speed and ensure safety.

Final Phase of Pile Driving at Harry Tracy

Pile driving at the Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant (located off Highway 280 near San Bruno and Millbrae) is expected to begin on August 7^th and continue for approximately 6 to 8 weeks. This will be the final phase of pile driving for the new 11 million gallon treated water reservoir.  The new reservoir will allow us to provide up to 140 million gallons of water per day, for 60 days, within 24 hours of a major earthquake.

The Harry Tracy plant is also expanding water filtration capacity as part of the ongoing construction. Beginning next week and continuing for 3 weeks, trucks will off-haul excavated soil from the site of the new filters. All trucks go through the wheel washer before leaving the plant to prevent tracking dirt onto Crystal Springs Road, and truckloads are securely covered. In addition, soil is tested before the off-haul to ensure there are no contaminants present. Truck hauling will operate between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pilot cars will continue to escort trucks along the road to restrict speed and ensure safety.
